  • The event at the Círculo de Bellas Artes will take place on 27 and 28 October

Bankia is sponsoring the Eñe literary festival, which will take place in Madrid between 23 October and 5 November and which this year will be attended by 139 authors, taking part in more than 50 activities.

The Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid will be the main festival venue and all the activities held at the Círculo will be free of charge, for the first time, thanks to Bankia's support. The activities will take place on Friday, 27 and Saturday, 28 October.

The Círculo de Bellas Artes will host a full programme featuring many of the big names in contemporary Spanish literature.

Writer and journalist Antonio Lucas, the festival's literary director, has designed a programme whose opening session will bring together, for the first time, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Javier Marías and Agustín Díaz Yanes. Accompanied by the journalist Jacinto Antón, these three authors will discuss the main themes that have inspired their work as creators.

This opening discussion will be followed by two sessions of talks and reflections on the subject of literary creation, covering everything from narrative to poetry, essay and journalism.

Javier Cercas will talk with the writer and journalist Jesús Ruiz Mantilla about the reality that feeds his novels.

The Eñe festival will also bring to the Círculo de Bellas Artes authors such as Félix de Azúa, Andrés Trapiello, Marta Sanz, Ramón Andrés, Rafael Reig, Antonio Orejudo, Cristina Moral and Daniel Arjona, among others.

At the same time, Manuel Vicent and Raúl del Pozo will meet to discuss the profession of journalism. Opinion journalism will be the subject of the conversation between Arcadi Espada, David Gistau and Juan Soto Ivars.

Philosophy will also be represented in the activities at the Círculo de Bellas Artes with the presence of Antonio Escohotado and Francisco Jarauta.

The Eñe festival will include other literary events at the Instituto Cervantes, the National Library, Casa del Lector, Casa de América, CentroCentro Cibeles, the Colombian Embassy in Spain, Club Matador and MINI Hub.

The festival is organised by La Fábrica and the Círculo de Bellas Artes. It also has the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, the Community of Madrid, Madrid City Council, the Madrid Publishers Association and the Madrid Booksellers Guild, among others.
