  • The President of the Autonomous Region of Valencia, Ximo Puig, welcomed participants in one of the leading Valencian ‘pilota’ tournaments.
  • The organisation has stepped up its commitment to support sport in Valencia by sponsoring the women’s league and the women's pilota singles.

The Bankia ‘escala i corda’ and ‘raspall’ pilota singles championships are underway. The 32nd Bankia Singles Championship - Regional President's Trophy of ‘escala i corda’ will start in Vila-real on Friday, 5 October. The 32nd Bankia Singles Championship - Regional President's Trophy of ‘raspall’ began on Monday, 24 September, at the court in Xeraco.

The most important championships on the sporting agenda are played on different courts in the Valencia region's three provinces.

The format of the most symbolic Valencian pilota competitions has changed. All competitors start in the quarter finals and play their way to the final the same way.

Two groups have been formed for each tournament in which eight leaders have been designated based on their ranking in the previous season. The remaining encounters are decided in a draw.

Participants in both modalities and Bankia’s representatives met for the presentation at the Palau de la Generalitat where the regional president, Ximo Puig, welcomed them in the building’s Gothic patio.

Bankia’s territorial corporate manager in Valencia and Castellón, Jaime Casas, was also there and remarked that “it is a delight to be part of the new edition of a legendary championship like the Singles”.

“The bank will continue to support Valencian pilota, which is part of our DNA”, he said, adding that “Bankia has always backed the Bankia League and is now sponsoring the women’s league and the individual women's league. “We hope this Singles championship reveal some great ‘escala i corda’ and ‘raspall’ players”, he said.

The final of the Bankia  ‘raspall’ championship will take place on 28 October in Bellreguard and the final of the ‘escala i corda’ will be played on the Pelayo court on 4 November.
