  • The 'Lliga Bankia de escala i corda' and the 'Lliga Bankia de raspall - Trofeu Diputació de València' took place in Valencia this Wednesday and will start next Friday in Vila-real and El Genovés

Bankia sponsors the 'Lliga Bankia de escala i corda', which is currently in its 29th edition, and the 'Lliga Bankia de raspall - Trofeu Diputació de València', for the 27th consecutive year, which was presented at the headquarters of the financial institution in Valencia.

The event was attended by the corporate director of Bankia in Valencia and Castellón, Jaime Casas; the vice president of the Pilota Foundation, José María Cataluña; and the president of the Federació de Pilota Valenciana, José Daniel Sanjuan, as well as the players of both categories.

The event was presented by Jaime Casas, who assured that "it is a pleasure to start the year by receiving at our headquarters the players of the Bankia Lligas de escala i corda and raspall, in a meeting that has already become a tradition to introduce of one of the most important professional competitions of Valencian pilota to fans and media representatives".

"At Bankia, we are proud to support competitions that take place every season with high-level players, quality and balance of the matches and the passion that this sport arouses among fans throughout the Community of Valencia. This new edition of the Lliga will surely bring many surprises and satisfactions", added the corporate manager of Bankia in Valencia and Castellón before wishing “good luck” to all players.

The vice president of the Fundació de Pilota, manager of the competition, said that "in 1992 the first 'Lliga de escala i corda' took place and, two years later, the first 'Raspall' league was held. Today we are presenting the 29th and 27th edition of two competitions that emerged to bring the same recognition to pilota and other sports”.

"They have been perfected and maintained thanks to the involvement of many people and entities such as Bankia, whose collaboration is essential, as well as the Federació, which took over the professional field during difficult times before the Fundació was created”, highlighted Cataluña.

"I would like to express our gratitude to all the people and institutions that have collaborated in making these the most important team competitions, including the Generalitat and the Diputació de València, which have always been on the side of pilota. Together we work to promote this iconic sport in the Community”, said the vice president of the Pilota Foundation.

For his part, the president of the Federació de Pilota Valenciana, José Daniel Sanjuan, highlighted the presence of "a good number of first-timers, together with recognised players of 'raspall' and 'escala i corda'". "It is also noteworthy that the two leagues will be played in all front row trinquets of the Community of Valencia and this is important because, in addition to the media coverage of the leagues alone, holding games in so many towns brings the sport closer to people”.

"I am very pleased to see that many of the players who are currently competing in the leagues have been part of the technique schools of the Federació", said Sanjuan.

Seven and six teams

Seven teams will participate in the 'Lliga Bankia de escala i corda’ and six teams will compete in the 'Lliga Bankia de raspall - Trofeu Diputació de València'.

The two competitions will start this Friday. The 'Lliga Bankia de escala i corda' will start at the Vila-real trinquet, where the local team comprised of Puchol II, Tomás II and Guillermo will face the Montserrat team, with Marc, Jesús and Álvaro Gimeno.

In the 'Lliga Bankia de raspall - Trofeu Diputació de València', the opening game will take place at the Genovés trinquet, where the Barxeta team with Moltó, Raúl and Ibiza will face the Xeraco team with Ian, Canari and Ricardet.

The structure will be similar for both competitions. First, a regular two-game round will take place, consisting of 42 games in the 'Lliga Bankia de escala i corda'. In the 'Lliga Bankia de raspall - Trofeu Diputació de València', this same round has a total of 30 games.

After the first phase, the top four teams in each league will enter the semifinals, which will determine the teams that will compete in the grand final. During the first phase, the two competitions will take place in 25 different towns in the three provinces of the Community of Valencia).

The players have shown their satisfaction with the rivals assigned to them and the members of every team.
