Bankia and Sa Nostra Foundation provide 120,000 euros to support the social programmes of 33 associations in the Balearic Islands

The 33 entities selected may be financed from a minimum of 2,000 euros and up to a maximum of 8,000 euros.

  • The selected associations will carry out projects in the areas of employment, local development, the elderly and disabled, which will benefit more than 48,000 people.

Bankia and Sa Nostra Foundation will provide 120,000 euros in support of 33 associations in the Balearic Islands that have submitted their initiatives to the call for proposals ‘Aid to Social Action Projects 2019’. The projects of these associations will benefit more than 48,000 people.

The 33 entities selected will carry out social programmes in the areas of employment, local development, the elderly and disabled people with the aim of improving the quality of life of groups at risk of social exclusion in the Balearic Islands.

The projects may be financed from a minimum of 2,000 euros and up to a maximum of 8,000 euros and, in no event may the amount received exceed 70% of the total cost of the project.

The grants will be awarded to the associations at an event held on 18 June at the Sa Nostra Foundation headquarters in Palma de Mallorca, which will be attended by representatives of the selected projects.

More than 70 people attended the first Dualiza Encounter organised in Logroño by the Bankia Foundation for Dual Training - through its Dualiza Bankia brand - and the national association of FPEmpresa centres, together with the Federation of Entrepreneurs of La Rioja and the regional government.

The director of the Bankia Foundation for Dual Training, Juan Carlos Lauder, underlined that “this Dualiza Meeting is part of the commitment that, from Dualiza Bankia, we have with education and with this region. We firmly believe that a boost to Vocational Training and its dual modality will contribute to greater social cohesion and we want to continue working to achieve this”.

The General Director of Education of the Government of La Rioja, Miguel Ángel Fernández, wanted to thank both Dualiza Bankia and FPEmpresa for their cooperation and encouraged both institutions to continue their support to the region.

For his part, the chairman of FER, Jaime García Calzada, stressed that “vocational training and dual vocational training are a response to the needs of the labour market, which usually evolves very quickly, and therefore vocational training must be in constant evolution, with cycles that respond to this demand, to these increasingly specialised profiles. We want an open, flexible education system, close to companies and permanently adapted to the reality of the economic and business sectors”.

The event, held at the Think Tic, seeks to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of Dual Vocational Training in La Rioja with the aim of seeing how it can be promoted, getting more centres and more companies to collaborate in its promotion, and discovering which are the keys to achieving a model of excellence that is sustainable over time.

To do so, companies belonging to 7 key sectors in the economy of La Rioja (IT, automotive, mechanical manufacturing, renewable energy, graphic arts, installation and maintenance, and electricity and electronics) and a dozen educational centres have exposed the main obstacles encountered and have posed their doubts when implementing the dual.

Dualiza Bankia is the brand through which the Bankia Foundation for Dual Training carries out all of its promotion and prestige activities regarding vocational training and dual vocational training, keeping in mind that it improves the employability of students and the competitiveness of companies. And it represents the commitment acquired by Bankia to the promotion of education as a way to improve society, combat inequality and promote greater social cohesion.

Bankia has handed over a charitable cheque worth €5,000 to the Las Palmas Food Bank, with the funds raised at the 'Match for the Food Bank' that Herbalife Gran Canaria played against Real Madrid.

Under the agreement between Bankia and C.B Gran Canaria, Bankia has handed over €5,000 to the Food Bank, the amount raised by Bankia giving one euro per kilo of food collected in a new edition of the 'Match for the Food Bank'.

The so-called ‘yellow tide’ showed its support once again by delivering more than 4,500 kilos of food to the Las Palmas Food Bank during the Liga Endesa match. Bankia volunteers helped hundreds of fans and even the Herbalife Gran Canaria players who came to the match with bags full of non-perishable food for needy people.

The event thrown to celebrate handing over the charitable cheque was held at the headquarters of the Las Palmas Food Bank and was attended by the president of C.B. Gran Canaria, Enrique Moreno; corporate manager of Bankia in the Islas Canarias Federico Navarro; business manager of Bankia in the Islas Canarias Mercedes Ballester, vice president of the Food Bank Andrés Merino.

"Handing over the solidarity cheque is the high point of an activity of which we are extremely proud, as it shows Bankia’s commitment to the fight against poverty, thanks to the important mobilisation of Canarian company and the ‘yellow tide’, as well as our exceptional relationship with CB Gran Canaria ", said the corporate director the Islas Canarias territory.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the C.B. Gran Canaria fans for the great gesture of solidarity that has made this sixth drive for the Las Palmas Food Bank such a success", said Enrique Moreno.

The vice chairman of the Food Bank praised "the success of this joint action thanks to the collaboration between the entities".

Bankia has joined the Euronext Vigeo Index Eurozone 120, an index that recognises the bank's commitment to developing the best sustainable environmental, social and corporate governance practices.

To be part of this index, which is reviewed every six months, the rating agency Vigeo Eiris evaluates up to 330 indicators according to the Equitics methodology. The 120 Eurozone companies included in the index have reached the highest valuations in the last revision.

The scores are based on criteria that include analysis of six dimensions: human rights, the environment and climate change, employment policies, relations with stakeholders, corporate governance, and contribution to economic and social development.

In 2012, the New York Stock Exchange and Vigeo launched these sustainability indexes on the market, whose companies are chosen after a thorough analysis of their social, environmental and good governance risks.

Bankia directs its management model and its business strategy towards sustainability and generating value for the environment. In this context, the group has a Responsible Management Plan 2019-2020 to respond to the sector challenges in the coming years.

This plan has three fundamental challenges: preventing risks in the social, environmental and good governance areas; supporting management with greater control over the processes, fostering continuous improvement and responding to the expectations of stakeholders; and driving leadership, so that Bankia is at the forefront of its sector in so far as sustainability.

Bankia supports Red Cross social programs with 450,000 euros in 2019, focusing in particular on one of Bankia's main social action strategy: the employability of particularly vulnerable people.

Bankia's Deputy General Director of Communication and External Relations, Amalia Blanco, the director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Bankia (CSR), David Menéndez, and the secretary general of the Red Cross, Leopoldo Pérez, participated in the signing of the collaboration agreement, which was held at Bankia's headquarters in Madrid.

Since 2014, Bankia and the Red Cross have been carrying out employment programs that have benefited a total of 11,475 participants, of which 5,195 got hired, which amounts to a hiring rate of 45%.

During the last six years, the bank has supported the programs 'Help for +45 employment', 'Re-qualification of people affected by the financial crisis' and 'Initiatives to improve employability for female victims of gender violence' with a total of 3.8 million euros.

Bankia has promoted a total of 14 requalification projects for people affected by the crisis, 24 projects aimed at improving the employability of people over the age of 45, and six projects to improve access to employment for women who are victims of gender-based violence.

Amalia Blanco highlighted the "complete trust that Bankia has in the Red Cross because of its great experience, capillarity and knowledge about the most urgent problems in society". "It is an example of social commitment and we admire its continuous work, tirelessly, 24 hours a day and on all continents", she said, and ensured that "it is the best ally”.

"The work carried out by the Red Cross with people does not only seek to alleviate specific situations in the short term, but also to provide real and practical support with programs tailored to the most demanded profiles in the market," said the general secretary of the Red Cross.

In addition, the Deputy General Director of Communication and External Relations of Bankia highlighted the high level of success in hiring -more than 45% of the participants have found jobs-, the high capillarity of the programs launched, which have reached almost 32 towns in Spain in these last six years, and the involvement of 1,100 collaborating companies.

Amalia Blanco also stated that the work of the Red Cross "represents all the values of Bankia's social footprint: proximity, direct commitment, a sense of urgency and everyone's involvement".

According to Leopoldo Pérez, "collaboration between Bankia and the Red Cross is an important contribution to improving the employability of particularly vulnerable people". "Together, we have been committed to working on programs to support unemployed people over the age of 45 with significant family responsibilities, women victims of gender violence and people to whom the crisis has affected more strongly", he remarked.
