  • The financial institution will award sports scholarships to the best students in Valencia so they can participate in the Campus event scheduled to take place between 23 and 29 July
  • Students born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2009 are eligible to apply for the scholarships
  • This year the scholarships will be divided out evenly between the three defined age categories

Last Friday, under the scope of their collaboration agreement, Bankia and Valencia Basket unveiled the fourth edition of the  Bankia Achievement Campus, which will see 100 sports scholarships go to the best students resident in the Spanish region of Valencia for participation in the Campus scheduled to take place between 23 and 29 July.

The new programme was presented at an event organised on the Víctor Luengo Court at Valencia Basket's L'Alqueria complex for youths and was attended by the chief executive of Valencia Basket, Paco Raga, and the corporate director of Bankia's operations in Valencia and Castellón, Jaime Casas.

To be eligible to apply for one of the scholarships, candidates must have been born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2009. They must present their academic transcripts and the other prerequisites for qualifying for the aid from 9.30am until 2pm and from 4pm to 8pm at Valencia Basket's offices on 5 July.

Bankia will reward the top 100 academic records presented by assuming 70% of the costs of accommodation and other living expenses for the week-long event. The winners must pay the remaining 30%, a sum of less than €100. Each participant will also receive a gift of two T-shirts and a poster.

One of the new developments this year is the decision to divide out the scholarships evenly across the various age categories in order to enhance the distribution. Specifically, 33 scholarships will be awarded to the best school records presented by children in category 1 (born in 2007, 2008 and 2009), 33 for cases in category 2 (born in 2004, 2005 and 2006) and 34 for the best cases in category 3 (born in 2001, 2002 and 2003). In the event there are more candidates with the same marks than places available in any of these three categories, the contested Campus places will be awarded by means of a solicitor-witnessed draw.

The chief executive of Valencia Basket, Paco Raga, in announcing that Bankia and Valencia Basket had decided to renew this initiative, coined 'More than a triple pointer', for the fourth year running, underlined that "for us it is a tremendous satisfaction to work with an entity of the calibre of Bankia, which prioritises the transmission of values that epitomise our way of thinking and doing things".

Within the three prongs of this initiative, the executive stressed the fact that the Bankia Campus "rewards girls and boys for their hard work at school". He also took advantage of the presentation to remind his audience that by using the Bankia Valencia Basket payment card, "our fans can help our club, since a portion of the profits generated on the transactions processed using the card are passed on to it".

Paco Raga also recalled that the new record donation under Bankia's ‘Triple-Pointer for Charity' (currently in excess of €33,000) will once again be used to "provide our coaches with additional training by means of clinics, talks and courses designed to raise their skills so that they can pass them on to all the players in our talent incubator: l'Alqueria del Basket".

For his part, Jaime Cases, the corporate director of Bankia's operations in Valencia and Castellón sought to stress the fact that "this initiative is a reward for the hard work put in by the children throughout the school year and is an opportunity to enjoy activities that reinforce values such as teamwork, camaraderie, generosity and effort".

The requirements for applying for the Bankia Achievement Campus are:

  • Having been born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2009.
  • Being a resident in the region of Valencia.
  • Presenting an academic record for the school year 2017-18 showing a pass in all subjects and at least a 7 out of 10 in English.

The documents the candidates will have to produce:

  • Academic transcript for the school year 2017-18.
  • The Bankia Campus leaflet duly filled out with the participant's data. This leaflet is available from any Bankia branch throughout Valencia and at the offices of Valencia Basket.
  • A photocopy of the participant's heath card.
  • A photocopy of the participant's national identity card.
  • Download the registration form (spanish version).

The top 100 achievers, on the basis of the school records presented, will be selected from all of the applications presented on time that fulfil all the required conditions.

Valencia Basket will publish the list of children accepted for the Bankia Achievement Campus on its website, http://www.valenciabasket.com/, in the days following the presentation of transcripts.

Inside the Calvestra facilities

The Bankia Achievement Campus will take place at the Calvestra complex (carretera Villar de Olmos, km. 5, Requena) which is equipped with eight basketball courts, four mini courts, a swimming pool, separate accommodation for boys and girls, a lunchroom, an educational farm, a TV and games room, a theatre and a 24-hour nursing and physiotherapy service.

During this fourth edition of the Campus, which will run from Monday 23 July until Sunday 29 July and will conclude with a special event in La Fonteta, the scholarship holders will partake in two training sessions (divided up into levels) and one specific working session each day.

There will also be a host of competitions, including 3x3, 2x2, 1x1, free throw, triple-point shooting, evening league and all-star formats. In addition to basketball, the lucky participants will have the chance to participate in lots of other activities, including adventure sports, a trip to a water park, zipline park or climbing Wall.
