  • The bank is contributing 500,000 euros to the Fundación Sa Nostra to jointly promote initiatives run by associations that carry out social, environmental and entrepreneurial activities in the region
  • With the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected nine projects in Palma de Mallorca and Manacor to receive up to 67,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia is also contributing almost 32,000 euros to employment plans run by Cáritas and Cruz Roja in Palma de Mallorca and Mahón

This year Bankia is contributing 600,000 euros to support a total of 46 charity projects on the Islas Baleares thanks to partnership agreements with Fundación Sa Nostra, Cruz Roja and Cáritas. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the branch network.

Bankia’s social action strategies on the islands focus on job creation for young people, and those over 45, the long-term unemployed, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“Bankia is committed to organisations that run specific, local and social projects that are necessary to improve the daily lives of people who live on the Islas Baleares”, underlined Antoni Serra, Bankia's corporate director for the Islas Baleares territory.

During 2019, Bankia is providing the Fundación Sa Nostra with 500,000 euros of support to jointly promote social, environmental and entrepreneurship programmes run by associations on the islands.

The agreement includes, on the one hand, an invitation to apply for “Aid for Social Action Projects in 2019”, which has selected 33 projects that will benefit over 48,000 people. On the other hand, it includes a support plan for environmental and natural heritage recovery programmes, as well as a group of projects focusing on education and entrepreneurs.

Increased employability

Bankia is also contributing almost 32,000 euros to an industrial garment-making training workshop for the immigrant population supported by Cáritas in Palma de Mallorca, and another introduction to ecological farming workshop run by Cáritas in Mahón (Menorca), as well as a route back to work for the long-term unemployed run on the islands by Cruz Roja.

Furthermore, with the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees in the Islas Baleares have selected a total of nine projects in Palma de Mallorca and Manacor to receive up to 67,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is one of our flagships. The pride of belonging to the bank becomes more evident through this program, as the professionals support the groups and associations from their district that they select themselves”, says Serra.

Bankia

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority social action strategies: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The financial institution focuses its social investment on these areas and maintains its commitment to society through the involvement of its entire structure and professionals. The Responsible Management policy is all-encompassing and approachable, as it links the social actions of the bank with its goals. Thus, Bankia makes a priority contribution to nine of the 17 SDGs, including decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; action for climate, and affordable, clean energy.
