  • The bank is contributing 630,000 euros to the Fundación Montemadrid to jointly promote initiatives run by associations that carry out social, environmental and entrepreneurship activities in the region
  • With the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected 68 specific projects in the region that receive up to 500,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia also contributes to employment plans run by Cruz Roja, with a package worth almost 40,000 euros, and by Cáritas, with close to 14,000 euros

This year Bankia is contributing 1.3 million euros to support 79 charity projects in Comunidad de Madrid thanks to partnership agreements with the Fundación Montemadrid, Cruz Roja, Cáritas and the Padre Piquer Training Centre. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the branch network.

Bankia’s social action strategies in Comunidad de Madrid focus on job creation for young people and those over 45, women who are victims of gender-based violence, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“Bankia is committed to organisations that carry out specific, local, social projects, necessary to improve the daily lives of people who live in Madrid”, underlined the deputy general manager of Private Banking at Bankia, Eugenio Solla. Bankia has three regional offices in Comunidad de Madrid, headed by Juan Luis Vidal (North), Juan Antonio Zaragoza (East) and Julio Martín (South-West).

In 2019, Bankia provided 630,000 euros of support to the Fundación Montemadrid with the aim of jointly promoting social, environmental and entrepreneurial programmes run by associations in Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha.

On the one hand the agreement includes the implementation of the “VII Call for Proposals for Social Action”, promoted by both entities in the two regions to support social inclusion programmes related to employability, inclusion and equality, to which a total of one million euros has been provided.

On the other hand, Bankia and the Fundación Montemadrid will launch this year a call for environmental proposals to support projects related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, as a result of their commitment to natural environments and citizenship.

Increased employability

Bankia is also providing almost 40,000 euros of support to employment projects run by Cruz Roja in provinces of the region that help to improve the employability of the long-term unemployed and women who are unemployed or victims of gender-based violence. Additionally, the bank is contributing close to 14,000 euros for setting up a training route for care provided by Cáritas in the region.

The bank’s initiatives also include 50,000 euros worth of support for the Padre Piquer Training Centre, which runs two training programmes: “Families and Students Intervention Service (SIFA)” and the “Multitasking Cooperative Classrooms 3.0” project (ACM 3.0.).

Furthermore, with the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees in Comunidad de Madrid have selected a total of 68 specific projects in the districts of Madrid, Aranjuez, Collado Villalba, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Rivas Vaciamadrid, Alcobendas, Alcorcón, Getafe, Las Rozas and Guadarrama to receive up to 500,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is one of our flagships. The pride of belonging to the bank becomes more evident through this program, as the professionals support the groups and associations from their district that they select themselves”, says Solla.

Bankia

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority social action strategies: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The financial institution focuses its social investment on these areas and maintains its commitment to society through the involvement of its entire structure and professionals. The Responsible Management policy is all-encompassing and approachable, as it links the social actions of the bank with its goals. Thus, Bankia makes a priority contribution to nine of the 17 SDGs, including decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; action for climate, and affordable, clean energy.
