  • With the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected 18 specific projects that receive up to 133,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia is also contributing almost 45,000 euros to Cruz Roja employment programmes, and almost 35,000 euros to similar programmes run by Cáritas in Segovia and Ávila

This year Bankia is contributing 500,000 euros to support a total of 74 charity projects in Castilla y León thanks to partnership agreements with the Fundación Ávila and the Fundación Caja Segovia with the Cruz Roja and Cáritas. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the branch network.

Bankia’s social action strategies in the region, which will benefit over 5,600 people, focus on job creation for young people and those over 45, women, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“Bankia is committed to organisations that run specific, local and social projects that are necessary to improve the daily lives of people who live in Castilla y León”, underlined Lola Peñas, Bankia's corporate director for the territory of Castilla and León.

On the one hand, in 2019 Bankia is providing a total of 170,000 euros worth of support to the Fundación Ávila with the aim of jointly promoting social, environmental and cultural programmes run by associations and foundations in the province.

The agreement includes the implementation of several joint actions this year, including the “2019 Call for Proposals for Social Action” which, for the seventh consecutive year, will provide economic support to a total of 23 social projects run by associations in the province.

Bankia and the Fundación Ávila have also launched a programme for lending venues that foundations can use to organise their activities, at the Palacio de los Serrano facilities and the Avila Foundation’s Theatre and Auditorium.

On the other hand, Bankia is providing the Fundación Caja Segovia with 102,000 euros of support, which this year will allow it to run 22 social projects in the capital city and the province. The agreement aims to contribute to the promotion of employment and rural development in Segovia, as well as to improve the quality of life of people who are unemployed, disabled or in danger of social exclusion. In addition, as a new feature this year, it includes actions related to the environment and culture.

Increased employability

In addition, Bankia is also providing almost 45,000 euros worth of support for a total of seven employment projects run by the Cruz Roja in the provinces of Palencia, Salamanca, Valladolid, Ávila, Riaza (Segovia) and Valladolid, aimed at over-45s, the long-term unemployed and women who are unemployed or victims of gender-based violence.

The bank is also providing Cáritas with almost 35,000 euros worth of support for the implementation of several routes back to work in the areas of logistics, domestic work and self-employment in Ávila and Segovia, as well as for training workshops focusing on ecological gardening and cooking. A total of 13 people have found jobs so far.

Furthermore, with the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees in the region have selected a total of 18 projects in the nine provinces of Castilla and León to receive up to 133,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is one of our flagships. The pride of belonging to the bank becomes more evident through this program, as the professionals support the groups and associations from their district that they select themselves”, says Peñas.

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority social action strategies: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The financial institution focuses its social investment on these areas and maintains its commitment to society through the involvement of its entire structure and professionals. Thus, Bankia makes a priority contribution to nine of the 17 SDGs, including decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; action for climate, and affordable, clean energy.
