  • The project acknowledges worker’s compliance with clients by allocating subsidies to social projects selected by the employees themselves
  • The programme fosters labour integration, services for people with disabilities, local development and relief in situations of poverty and people at risk of marginalisation, among others

Bankia invests more than a million euros in supporting a total of 270 NGOS in all Spain’s autonomous regions after bank employees succeed in meeting their objectives for the first half of the year.

The bank increased its investment in the programme by almost 60% compared to the same period last year. By June it had mobilised a total of €1.031 million compared to €652,000 allocated in 2017.

The ‘Red Solidaria’ project acknowledges the workforce’s achievements by allocating subsidies to social projects selected by the employees themselves. It supports and subsidises NGOs with grants of between €1,000 and €10,000 per annum.

During the first half of the year, a total of €82,500 people benefited from this programme, which fosters integration in the workplace, assistance for people with disabilities, local development and aid for people in poverty and people at risk of marginalisation.

“Red Solidaria is a programme that depends on the everyday work of bank employees, which strengthens its symbolism. This allows us to highlight the professionalism and commitment to society of everyone who works at Bankia, and to support local charitable projects”, said Bankia’s Corporate Social Responsibility manager David Menéndez.

Menéndez said that “this motivates bank employees and is a good example of corporate sustainability” and that “one of the greatest strengths of Red Solidaria is that it is far reaching, supporting projects in all Spain's provinces”.

Projects by Autonomous Regions

Bankia has devoted almost €300,000 starting up 71 social projects selected by employees in the Community of Madrid; almost €150,000 to support 39 NGO programmes in the Valencia Region and almost €100,000 driving a total of 28 initiatives by associations and foundations in Andalucia; 25 in Cataluña and 20 in Castilla y León.

The bank has also donated more than €60,000 euros to support 15 projects in Castilla-La Mancha; almost €50,000 to 13 social projects in the Islas Canarias and almost €30,000 to carry out 14 initiatives in the Murcia Region, seven in La Rioja and six in Galicia. Red Solidaria has also been able to launch ten projects in the Islas Baleares with an investment of €18,000 thanks to its employees’ compliance with objectives.

The contribution was made possible by the results obtained by all the bank’s divisions: Retail Banking, Business Banking, SMEs, Private Banking, Specialised Business, Multi-Channel Business and Central Services.

During the last five editions of the Red Solidaria, which started up in 2012, Bankia has supported more than 900 social projects with more than €6 million, with more than 400,000 direct beneficiaries.
