  • The bank is donating 320,000 euros to the Caja Rioja Foundation to jointly promote initiatives run by associations that carry out social, environmental and entrepreneurial activities in the region
  • Through the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected five projects in Logroño that will receive over 25,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia is also collaborating with almost 10,000 euros which have been allocated to an employment plan carried out by Cáritas

This year Bankia is donating nearly 355,000 euros to support a total of 31 social projects in Rioja, thanks to partnership agreements with the Caja Rioja Foundation and Cáritas. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the network of branches.

Bankia’s social action strategies in the region focus on job creation for young people, and those over 45, the long-term unemployed, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“In the complicated current situation, caused by Covid-19, Bankia is more committed than ever to those who, at a local level, carry out specific, close and much-needed social projects that help to improve the day-to-day lives of people in situations of vulnerability living in La Rioja”, underlined Bankia’s North Territorial Corporate Manager, with head offices in Logroño, Begoña Hernández.

During 2020, Bankia is providing the Caja Rioja Foundation with 320,000 euros of support to jointly promote social, environmental and entrepreneurship programmes run by associations in the region.

The agreement includes, on the one hand, an invitation to apply for “Aid for Social Action Projects 2020”, which has selected 23 projects that will benefit over 3,000 people. On the other hand, it includes projects aimed at rural development and social and cultural activities, as well as a plan to support environmental programmes. As a novelty this year, a call for environmental and sustainable development projects will be launched this 1 September.

Increased employability

Bankia is also supporting a training and accompaniment workshop by Cáritas with around 10,000 euros to serve 50 people in situations of unemployment and vulnerability.

Through the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected five projects in Logroño that will receive over 25,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is a programme that showcases the pride of belonging to Bankia and due to which the bank’s professionals, thanks to their work, support the groups and associations of their area that they themselves have chosen”, pointed out Hernández.

Bankia

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority lines of social action: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The bank is focusing its social investment on these areas and shows its commitment to society by involving the entire organisation and its employees. The Responsible Management policy is a capillary, grassroots programme that connects the bank’s welfare work with its corporate objectives. This enables Bankia to prioritise five of the 17 SDGs: Climate action (SDG 13), Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), Quality education (SDG 4), Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and SDG 17, which encompasses them all, Revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
