  • The bank is donating 600,000 euros to the Cajamurcia Foundation to jointly promote social, environmental and entrepreneurship programmes in the region
  • Through the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected 11 projects in Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Torre Pacheco, Ribera de Molina, Zarandona and Calasparra to receive over 55,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia is also donating over 23,000 euros to employment plans run by Caritas and the Red Cross in the Murcia Region

This year Bankia is donating close to 720.00 euros to support a total of 82 social projects in the Murcia Region thanks to partnership agreements with the Cajamurcia Foundation, the Red Cross and Cáritas. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the network of branches.

Bankia’s social action strategies in the Murcia Region focus on job creation for young people and those over 45, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“Bankia is committed to organisations that run specific, local and social projects that are much-needed to improve the daily lives of people who live in Murcia”, underlined Olga García, Bankia’s regional corporate manager for the Murcia and Alicante region.

The agreement with Cajamurcia Foundation includes, on the one hand, support for 67 social initiatives through the 'Call for Social Action 2020', which will benefit more than 35,000 people and, on the other, a line of social and cultural projects, as well as a plan to support environmental programmes. As a novelty this year, a call for environmental and sustainable development projects will be launched this 1 September.

The partnership with the Cajamurcia Foundation also includes support for environmental programs and socio-cultural projects in the region, as well as support for local and social development activities.

Increased employability

Bankia also provides over 13,000 euros of support to an employment project run by Cáritas to improve the social and occupational prospects of people at danger of social exclusion. This project includes personalised routes for getting people back to work, and training in furniture restoration, retail and cleaning activities. A total of 230 people benefit from this initiative. Similarly it supports a route back to work aimed at 275 people over the age of 45, run by the Red Cross and thanks to an economic package worth 10,000 euros.

Furthermore, with the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees in the Murcia Region have selected a total of 11 specific projects in the districts of Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Torre Pacheco, Ribera de Molina, Zarandona and Calasparra to receive over 55,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is a programme that showcases the pride of belonging to Bankia and due to which the bank’s professionals, thanks to their work, support the groups and associations of their locality that they themselves have chosen”, pointed out Olga García.

On the other hand, the bank has recently carried out a fund-raising campaign in favour of the Segura Food Bank together with the UCAM Murcia Basketball Club, to which it has contributed 10,000 euros. The institution has also delivered more than 700 books for children and young people to families with school-age children with the aim of promoting reading against social exclusion, and alleviating the lack of reading material and stimulating children and young people to read during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority lines of social action: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The bank is focusing its social investment on these areas and shows its commitment to society by involving the entire organisation and its employees. The Responsible Management policy is a capillary, grassroots programme that connects the bank’s welfare work with its corporate objectives. This enables Bankia to prioritise five of the 17 SDGs: Climate action (SDG 13), Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), Quality education (SDG 4), Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and SDG 17, which encompasses them all, Revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
