  • The bank is donating 800,000 euros to the CajaGranada Foundation to jointly promote initiatives run by associations that carry out social, environmental and social and cultural activities in the autonomous community
  • Through the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected 29 projects in all Andalusian provinces to receive in excess of 145,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia is also donating more than 40,000 euros to employment plans run by Caritas and the Red Cross in Granada, Jaén, Almería, Málaga and Sevilla

This year Bankia is donating nearly one million euros to support a total of 124 social projects in Andalucía thanks to partnership agreements with the CajaGranada Foundation, the Red Cross, Cáritas and the Granada food bank. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the network of branches.

Bankia’s social action strategies in Andalucía focus on job creation for young people, and those over 45, the long-term unemployed, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“In the complicated current situation, caused by Covid-19, Bankia is more committed than ever to those who, at regional and local levels, carry out specific, close and much-needed social projects that help to improve the day-to-day lives of people in situations of vulnerability living in Andalucía”, underlined Bankia’s corporate regional director for Andalucía, Joaquín Holgado.

During 2020, Bankia is providing the CajaGranada Foundation with 800,000 euros of support to jointly promote social, environmental and environmental development programmes run by associations in the region.

The agreement includes, on the one hand, the implementation of the Social Action call ‘We help those who help 2020’, which has selected 86 projects that will benefit about 76,000 people and, on the other, a line of social and cultural projects, and a plan to support environmental programmes. As a novelty this year, a call for environmental and sustainable development projects will be launched this 1 September.

Increased employability

With more than 13,000 euros, Bankia is once again supporting a project by Cáritas for social and labour placement for vulnerable people, in the capital city of Granada and in Motril. The programme includes job placement actions with companies from various sectors.

It also collaborates with 27,000 euros together with the Red Cross assemblies in Granada, Jaén, Almería, Málaga and Sevilla for the development of route back to work aimed at over-45s who are unemployed.

Through the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees in Andalucía have selected 29 specific projects spread over all provinces to receive in excess of 145,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is a programme that showcases the pride of belonging to Bankia and due to which the bank’s professionals, thanks to their work, support the groups and associations of their area that they themselves have chosen”, pointed out Holgado.

On the other hand, the bank has recently carried out a fund-raising campaign in favour of the Granada Food Bank together with the Granada Foundation Basketball Club, to which it has contributed 10,000 euros. The institution has also delivered a total of 1,100 books for children and young people to families with school-age children with the aim of promoting reading against social exclusion, and alleviating the lack of reading material and stimulating children and young people to read during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

Bankia

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority lines of social action: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The bank is focusing its social investment on these areas and shows its commitment to society by involving the entire organisation and its employees. The Responsible Management policy is a capillary, grassroots programme that connects the bank’s welfare work with its corporate objectives. This enables Bankia to prioritise five of the 17 SDGs: Climate action (SDG 13), Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), Quality education (SDG 4), Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and SDG 17, which encompasses them all, Revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
