  • Through contributions to a bank account, the Claretian fans have shown their most supportive side with an action that has been shared on social media for over a week
  • Bankia has tripled each euro contributed, which was a key factor in reaching a record high

Bankia and the Gran Canaria Basketball Club have raised more than 15,000 euros for the Las Palmas Food Bank in a special edition of the 'Seventh Match for the Las Palmas Food Bank'.

Due to Covid-19 the club could not carry out its usual in-person action to raise funds before the match. However, this new context has not been an impediment for the fans of the Gran Canaria Basketball Club to contribute to their charitable cause with Bankia. The contribution, in the form of money instead of food in this edition, has reached a record figure after a two-week action.

Bankia set up an account number in which more than 5,000 euros have been collected, which has become a total of 15,442 euros thanks to the fact that the financial institution has tripled each donated euro. All this proceeds will go directly to the Las Palmas Food Bank, an NGO that is deeply rooted and important in Gran Canaria's society that fights hunger actively and on a daily basis.

The players of Herbalife Gran Canaria have not missed this annual event. Players such as Javi Beirá, Oriol Paulí and Xavi Rabaseda have promoted collaboration with this cause during these past weeks. In addition, players Fabio Santana and Beqa Burjanadze, who have made contributions, closed this action with an online game of NBA2K20 that could be followed on YouTube.

"One more year, despite the exceptional circumstances, the fans, the club and our entity have demonstrated our commitment to the Las Palmas Food Bank and to the most disadvantaged people on the Islands", underlined the regional corporate director of Bankia in the Islas Canarias, Federico Navarro.

"It will be a very special fundraise because we have joined forces to be, during this very difficult time, close to those who need it most in an area as important to us as the Islands are", said the corporate Business Director of South and Isalas Canarias Companies at Bankia, Salvador Curiel.

“From the Gran Canaria Club, we would like to thank our fans for having responded, once again, to this call for solidarity and help to the Food Bank”, said the president of the Gran Canaria Club, Enrique Moreno.

Pedro Llorca, on behalf of the Las Palmas Food Bank, thanked Bankia, the Gran Canaria Basketball Club and all their fans that "once again, they have demonstrated their generous solidarity with towards disadvantaged people" . "By forming a team they have managed to improve the collections of previous years reaching a record figure", he stressed.
