Bankia joins the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) Europe, which recognises the bank as one of the most sustainable companies in Europe.

Bankia joins the most prestigious European sustainability index recognised by analysts which includes nine financial institutions, including five Spanish banks, and which assesses the performance of companies in economic, environmental and social aspects.

The analysts gave a 100 score to Bankia's responsible business model, transparency, tax strategy, protection of privacy and correct analysis of the most relevant matters for the bank and its stakeholders, such as philanthropy and financial inclusion policies.

for this entity, being part of this index is a recognition of the effort we are making to make responsible management a fundamental pillar of our business model

David Menéndez
Bankia’s Director of Responsible Management

Bankia’s Director of Responsible Management, David Menéndez, said that "for this entity, being part of this index is a recognition of the effort we are making to make responsible management a fundamental pillar of our business model." "This is an incentive to the work carried out from all directions of the bank to promote sustainable banking through responsible management," Menéndez added.

Bankia has received a score of 78 points out of 100. More than 3,500 companies have been invited to participate in the selection process to form part of the index.

In line with its commitment to responsible management, since 2016 Bankia has been included in the FTSE4Good Index, an index that is designed to facilitate investment in companies that manage their businesses according to environmental, social and corporate governance criteria (ASG) and recognised for their sustainability.

Moreover, in June 2019, Bankia joins the Euronext Vigeo Eurozone 120 Index, which recognises the bank's commitment to developing best practices in corporate governance, employment, contribution to economic development, human rights and the environment.

In addition, Bankia is part of the S&P Europe 350 ESG index, which is part of a series of global indices launched by the S&P Dow Jones Indices. This index is made up of companies that are analysed according to the ASG criteria for their commercial activity and their performance, in compliance with the United Nations Global Compact.

Recently, Bankia has adhered to the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, a global alliance of the financial industry for the environment whereby financial institutions publicly assume the duty to align their activities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. This global initiative seeks to foster the relationship between responsible banking and sustainable development, thereby committing financial institutions to contributing to the improvement of society and the environment by supporting the construction of a more sustainable and inclusive world.
