Bankia joins the first ‘#Greenriday Challenge’ in order to promote the purchase of environmentally responsible products

Bankia joins the First Challenge #GreenFriday, which was created for the purpose of fostering the purchase of responsible products and promoting changes in forms of consumption.

  • The ‘#GreenFriday Challenge’ is intended as an annual meeting to make visible the increasing array of responsible goods and services on the Spanish market
  • From June 1 - 10, coinciding with World Environment Day, which will take place on June 5, the companies will offer products and services under favourable terms at Escaparate #PorElClima (Showcase #ForTheClimate)
  • Escaparate #PorElClima started operating this past March 14 under the auspices of a group of companies that operate in Spain: Bankia, Eroski, Leroy Merlin, L'Orèal, Renault and Balay
  • Since then, more than 60 companies from all sectors of Spain’s economy have joined the proposal
  • Moreover, the initiative is supported by recognized social entities in our country

Bankia joins the First Challenge #GreenFriday, which was created for the purpose of fostering the purchase of responsible products and promoting changes in forms of consumption.

The First Challenge #GreenFriday was launched at the initiative of the Escaparate #PorElClima, which in turn was promoted by the Community #PorElClima, and which began operations this past March 14, under the auspices of a group of companies that operate on the Spanish market: Bankia, Eroski, Leroy Merlin, L'Orèal, Renault and Balay.

Since then, more than 60 companies(1) from all sectors of the Spanish economy have joined Escaparate #PorElClima. Moreover, the initiative is supported by recognized social entities in our country(2). It also enjoys the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment.

The Challenge #GreenFriday is intended as an annual meeting of Spanish companies in order to place on display the growing array of responsible goods and services that already exists in our country so as to accelerate the transition toward raising awareness of responsible consumption.

The collaboration of companies of all sizes with this proposal seeks to launch a message to Spanish consumers that they can already access a solid alternative offering of responsible products and services.

To provide a sample of this offering and promote more responsible consumption, from June 1 - 10, and coinciding with World Environment Day, which will take place on June 5, the different companies participating in the First Challenge GreenFriday will offer their products and services under favourable terms at Escaparate #PorElClima.

Sustainable Financial Products

Thus Bankia will offer the Sustainable Loan, a credit for consumption designed especially for people who wish to finance the acquisition of goods that promote energy efficiency, the battle against climate change and sustainable growth, such as environmentally friendly vehicles or low-consumption home appliances. This loan applies a fixed nominal interest rate of 4.75% and does not entail an origination fee.

Moreover, Bankia will also have a presence in the Escaparate #PorElClima with the Sustainable Future Fund, a global variable return fund that uses most recently defined socially responsible investment strategy, called ‘impact investment,’ which is the one that “pursues both financial profitability and positive social or environmental impact, as measured actively”, as indicated by the Study of the Spainsif forum for socially responsible investment in Spain in 2016.

The members of the #PorElClima Community encourage all companies that offer responsible goods and services to joint the initiative, by offering additional discounts and by downloading from the web the graphic materials to indicate to consumers that this establishment has joined the ‘Challenge #GreenFriday’.

At the same time, all public or private entities that sign the initiative’s manifesto will display an emblem that will identify them as part of the initiative.

Moreover, the #PorElClima Community issues a call for any Town or City Hall, social entity, company, educational centre or organization of any type that identifies with the initiative to join the ‘#GreenFriday Challenge’.
