  • The initiative, with an allocation of 200,000 euros, will be aimed at private non-profit entities operating in the Comunidad de Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, and whose activity is related to the environment

Bankia and the Montemadrid Foundation will launch an 'Call for the Environment' after the summer in their commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of the environment, both entities will jointly allocate 200,000 euros to support environmental projects in the Comunidad de Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha.

The call will be aimed at projects that seek to improve our natural heritage through the protection of biodiversity, the preservation of environmental quality and ecosystems, the sustainable use of natural resources and the promotion of environmental volunteering, as well as initiatives to improve the quality of life in cities through the active participation of citizens.

The aid will be allocated to private non-profit entities for the common good, whose corporate purpose and activity are related to the environment.

The general director of the Montemadrid Foundation, Cristóbal Sánchez, said that "commitment to the environment is linked to our commitment to today's society and to all its members. It is our obligation to preserve the natural heritage that has been given to us, as well as promoting sustainable development to reduce the impact on the environment and raising awareness through volunteering. Moreover, environmental projects are more complete if they combine social and environmental commitment ".

For his part, the director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Bankia, David Menéndez, stressed that "at Bankia we are aware of the importance of the environment and the need to contribute to reducing the threat of climate change". "That is why we have joined forces with the Montemadrid Foundation and are launching this call for proposals; because our commitment to society requires us to be ambitiously involved in actions that mitigate the ecological footprint", he added.

This cooperative project by the Montemadrid Foundation and Bankia is a new initiative within the seventh edition of Call for Action in 2019 and part of an agreement between the two entities for the development of three socio-environmental projects that are currently under development.

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority lines of social action: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The financial institution focuses its social investment on these areas and maintains its commitment to society through the involvement of its entire structure and professionals. The Responsible Management policy is all-encompassing and approachable, as it links the social actions of the bank with its goals. Thus, Bankia makes a priority contribution to nine of the 17 SDGs, including decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; action for climate, and affordable, clean energy.
