Bankia signs Raimundo Sala to boost the bank's digital leap


The new corporate director of Business Solutions has stated that "it is a professional challenge to contribute to Bankia's digital transformation" with the aim of "making life easier for our clients".

  • Raimundo Sala has joined Bankia as corporate director of business solutions, a newly created position, reporting to the Deputy CEO of Banca de Particulares
  • He will direct payment methods, a strategic area for the bank and one which is pivotal to the digitalisation process.
  • He will also be responsible for online payment platforms, 'open business' and initiatives in the commercial relationship with customers

Bankia has hired Raimundo Sala, previously PayPal’s senior manager of international markets, to bring Bankia closer to digital channels in a process embarked upon by the bank several years ago.

Sala has been recruited to fill a newly created position within the management organisation which will be crucial for the development of payment methods and the digital ecosystem and for new online business area. He reports to Eugenio Solla, Deputy CEO of Banca de Particulares.

"It is a professional challenge for me to contribute to the digital transformation Bankia in the Business Solutions Division. I am certain that we are going to provide the best customer experience in the field of digital payments, which is currently undergoing a rapid and deep evolution and that is essential to fulfil our brand’s commitment to make life easy for our customers ", said Sala.

Under your responsibility will be will direct payment methods, an area that is increasingly nourishing more income for banks, enhancing the customer experience when dealing with the bank and everything to do with online shopping, for which digital payment gateways are essential. His competences also include everything related to credit cards, POS terminals (business dataphones) and ATMs.

In addition, Sala will be responsible for boosting Bankia's initiatives in the field of open business, the search for new business models in the digital field and the development of relational sales.

Sala has a degree in business administration and management from the University of Alicante and the Hocheschool Zeeland in the Netherlands and a master's degree from UCLA and PDG from IESE.

Since 2015 and until he joined Bankia, Sala was PayPal's PayPal’s chief executive in International Business Development. Before that he was Sales Director for PayPal Spain and Portugal, and was responsible for the sales strategy for large, medium-sized and small businesses.

This new recruit to Bankia has more than 15 years’ experience leading strategic relationships in international companies and has held different roles in internationally renowned companies throughout Europe, the Middle East, South America and the United States.
