  • The entity supports the Ávila Foundation and the Caja Segovia Foundation with a budget of 170,000 and 150,000 euros, respectively, to jointly promote initiatives implemented by associations in the field of social, environmental and entrepreneurship in the two provinces
  • With the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees have selected 20 specific projects that receive more than 100,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches
  • Bankia is also donating almost 47,000 euros to the Red Cross employment programmes that are run in seven provinces within the region, and almost 27,000 euros to similar programmes run by Cáritas in Segovia and Avila

This year Bankia is donating 525,000 euros to support a total of 85 social projects in Castilla y León thanks to partnership agreements with the Avila Foundation and the Caja Segovia Foundation with the Red Cross and Cáritas. It is also participating in the Red Solidaria programme, through which bank employees support initiatives run by social entities by achieving the commercial objectives of the network of branches.

Bankia’s social action strategies in the region, which will benefit over 25,600 people, focus on job creation for young people and those over 45, women, people who are disabled and in danger of social exclusion, as well as on rural and local development and protecting the environment.

“In the complicated current situation, caused by Covid-19, Bankia is more committed than ever to those who, at a regional level, carry out specific, close and much-needed social projects that help to improve the day-to-day lives of people in situations of vulnerability living in Castilla y León”, underlined Bankia’s corporate manager in Castilla y León, Lola Peñas.

On the one hand, during 2020 Bankia is providing a total of 170,000 euros worth of support to the Avila Foundation with the aim of jointly promoting social, environmental and cultural programmes run by associations and foundations in the province.

The agreement includes the implementation of several joint actions, including the “2020 Call for Proposals for Social Action” which, for the eighth consecutive year, will provide economic support to a total of 25 social projects run by associations in the province, benefiting more than 1,400 people.

Bankia and the Ávila Foundation have also launched a programme for lending venues that foundations can use to organise their activities, at the Palacio de los Serrano facilities and the Avila Foundation’s Theatre and Auditorium.

On the other hand, Bankia is providing the Caja Segovia Foundation with 150,000 euros of support, which this year will allow it to run 29 social projects in the capital city and the province, which will benefit more than 3,100 people. The agreement aims to contribute to the promotion of employment and rural development in Segovia, as well as to improve the quality of life of people who are unemployed, disabled or in danger of social exclusion.

In addition, as a novelty this year, environmental calls will be launched on 1 September in these two provinces.

Increased employability

Bankia is also providing more than 47,000 euros worth of support for a total of seven employment projects run by the Red Cross in the provinces of Burgos, León, Salamanca, Valladolid, Ávila, Segovia and Zamora, aimed at over-45s, the long-term unemployed and women who are unemployed or victims of gender-based violence.

The bank is also providing Cáritas with almost 27,000 euros worth of support for the implementation of several routes back to work in the areas of logistics, domestic work and self employment in Avila and Segovia, as well as for training workshops focusing on ecological gardening and cooking.

Furthermore, with the Red Solidaria programme, bank employees in the region have selected a total of 20 projects in the nine provinces of Castilla y León to receive more than 100,000 euros of support, depending on the achievement of commercial objectives by the network of branches.

“Red Solidaria is a programme that showcases the pride of belonging to Bankia and due to which the bank’s professionals, thanks to their work, support the groups and associations of their locality that they themselves have chosen”, pointed out Peñas.

Bankia

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority lines of social action: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The bank is focusing its social investment on these areas and shows its commitment to society by involving the entire organisation and its employees. The Responsible Management policy is a capillary, grassroots programme that connects the bank’s welfare work with its corporate objectives. This enables Bankia to prioritise five of the 17 SDGs: Climate action (SDG 13), Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), Quality education (SDG 4), Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and SDG 17, which encompasses them all, Revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
