  • The financial institution supports volunteering days for people with physical, mental, intellectual or sensory disabilities through adapted sailing, kayaking and cycling activities
  • The agreement includes volunteering activities in Madrid's Juan Carlos I Park and days during this financial year to give an introduction to adapted sailing

Bankia supports the adapted sport voluntary work done by Fundación También for the inclusion of people with physical, mental, intellectual or sensory disabilities, through adapted sailing, kayaking and cycling activities.

The agreement has been signed by Bankia's director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), David Menéndez; Bankia's office director in Madrid, María José Esteban Malluenda, and the president of Fundación También, Teresa Silva.

Bankia has been supporting the activity of Fundación También since 2014 as part of its social action strategy with the aim of meeting the needs of the current social situation through volunteering.

The agreement includes volunteering activities in the Juan Carlos I Park in Madrid and days to give an introduction to adapted sailing. Playing sport is very beneficial to participants and the activities also raise awareness of how important volunteering is to an inclusive society.

“For Bankia it is a privilege to work with Fundación También, which has been working for 19 years for the social inclusion of anybody who is disabled to some extent, through sport and promoting educational values during adapted leisure and free time activities”, highlighted Menéndez.

“Participation in sports activities and the possibility of sharing these experiences with others improves the self-perception of people with disabilities in terms of their possibilities and raises their self-esteem, which is a fundamental psychological process as part of the task of personal improvement”, emphasises Silva.

In 2018 alone, the joint collaboration allowed 140 people with disabilities to participate in these activities and got 51 volunteers involved in activities such as an inclusive sports day, an inclusive kayaking day, an introduction to sailing day and an inclusive biking tour.
