Bankia supports a total of 17 environmental projects with 180,000 euros within the framework of the ‘First Call for the Environment and Sustainable Development Project Proposals’, which it has launched together with nine of its foundations of origin, including the Fundación Ávila, Fundación Caja Segovia, Fundación Caja Rioja, Fundación La Caja de Canarias, Fundación Iluro, Fundación CajaGranada, Fundación Cajamurcia, Fundación Sa Nostra and Fundación Caixa Castelló.

The financial institution has allocated 20,000 euros to the two environmental projects committed to sustainable development and nature conservation in the main regions or provinces in which the bank is present, which it has selected together with the foundations of origin, with the exception of Castellón where a single project will benefit from the 20,000 euros of the call.

Bankia’s Responsible Management Director, David Menéndez, stressed that “Bankia is strongly committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the promotion of a low-carbon economy and the development of responsible and sustainable banking. Our commitment to the environment is clear and that is why we are especially proud of this ‘First Call for the Environment and Sustainable Development Project Proposals’ set up with the foundations as it allows us to support the entities that work throughout the territory with the aim of building a fairer and more sustainable society”.

The ‘First Call for the Environment and Sustainable Development Project Proposals’ aims to support projects for conservation, restoration and sustainable use of land, marine and freshwater ecosystems; which help reduce and recycle waste, especially plastics; and encourage technological innovation to reduce and prevent environmental damage. An ability to reduce the carbon footprint is one aspect that is highly valued by the judges.

The aid is aimed at private non-profit organisations that work to protect nature and the environment in the provinces where Bankia’s foundations of origin have their geographical scope of action and the projects have been evaluated by a jury made up of representatives of the foundations, of Bankia and of a specialised technical consultancy.

This call for proposals is part of Bankia’s yearly collaboration with the 11 foundations of origin and, as a result of which, this year they have also promoted the ‘2020 Call for Social Action Grants’ to support social projects.

Bankia

Bankia consolidates and reinforces its commitment to society through five priority lines of social action: employment and training, housing, local and rural development, disability and the environment. The bank is focusing its social investment on these areas and shows its commitment to society by involving the entire organisation and its employees.
