Bankia, together with 30 international banks, leads the UN Collective Commitment to Climate Action

This adhesion is part of the global commitment acquired by the entity in the signing of the Principles of Responsible Banking promoted by the UN; as well as another boost in the bank's sustainable management model.

  • This is the most far-reaching climate commitment signed by the banking industry to date

Bankia, in its commitment to the environment, is one of the 31 international banks that have signed the Collective Commitment to Climate Action within the framework of the Principles for Responsible Banking promoted by the UN Environment Programme Financial Initiative (UNEP FI).

Thus, the entity is committed to the development of products and services to facilitate economic transition in order to achieve climate neutrality.

This is the most far-reaching climate commitment signed by the banking industry. With it, the 31 entities commit to align their business with the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The CEO of Bankia, José Sevilla, who was present at the signing ceremony of the Principles for Responsible Banking held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York yesterday, said that "it is important to make a public commitment to highlight the need for a responsible business model focused on promoting sustainable development and contributing to the improvement of the environment and the fight against climate change".

Likewise, the signatories, including three other Spanish banks, undertake to provide annual reports on the initiatives undertaken to minimise the environmental footprint and help to reduce global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.

This action is another step for Bankia in its sustainable management model and is part of Bankia’s global commitment to the signing of the Principles for Responsible Banking promoted by the UN. With these two actions, the entity states its position on promoting sustainable development and contributing to improving the environment and combating climate change.
