Bankia and Valencia Basket Club have renewed their agreement to convey sportsmanship values and the ‘Culture of Effort’ to young people in Valencia, at the Víctor Luengo court in L'Alqueria del Basket

Thanks to the support of the bank, Valencia Basket has promoted programs for the development of multiple activities aimed at training children and coaches in Comunidad Valenciana in L'Alqueria del Basket.

The relationship between these two entities started in the 2014-2015 season, so this programme is beginning its sixth edition with more recent project such as the 'Tu Cole a L'Alqueria' project, and maintaining other initiatives that have been there frome the start, such as the 'Triple Solidario' or the ‘Bankia-VBC Card'.

Bankia’s Corporate Regional Director in Valencia and Castellón, Jaime Casas, participated in the presentation ceremony along with the corporate director of Company Business in Valencia and Murcia, Carlos Aguilera and the head of Corporate Brand, Silvia Bajo, together with Valencia Basket's CEO, Paco Raga, who served as spokesperson for Club Taronja.

Both parties have made a positive assessment of the first five years of their relationship and have shown their confidence that this sixth season, which has just been signed, will be a new success.

The corporate manager of Bankia in Valencia and Castellón stressed that "at Bankia we are very proud and happy with this collaboration, which has only grown since we launched it in 2014. Along with 'Més que un triple', we have been developing a series of actions that have allowed us to be close to the Taronja club at its most important moments: its anniversary, its athletic triumphs, the rise of its women's team and, of course, the Alqueria del basquet and its reserve teams. A project that represents all those values that are the core of the club and that have made it great".

For his part, the CEO of Valencia Basket wanted to highlight that "since the 2014-2015 season we have always said that Valencia Basket is very happy to work with an entity like Bankia. An entity that focuses its efforts on conveying values so similar to the ones we promote with our Culture of Effort. This money we have received is being used to finance the training of coaches in Comunidad Valenciana here at L'Alqueria del Basket through the Fundación Valencia Basquet 2000. That is why we are delighted to extend our collaboration agreement one more season".

Symbolic delivery

Subsequently, a video summary of the actions carried out thanks to Bankia's support during the 2018-2019 season was shown, and Jaime Casas, Carlos Aguilera and Silvia Bajo handed out a check for 39,400 euros on behalf of the bank to Valencia Basket. With Bankia’s financial contribution, fifteen events have been held with internationally renowned speakers in which more than 2,009 coaches have been trained.

For his part, Paco Raga has handed Jaime Casas, Carlos Aguilera and Silvia Bajo a commemorative T-shirt of this event with the caption 'Bankia 2019-2020'. Finally, a group photo was taken with the representatives of Bankia, L'Alqueria del Basket and Valencia Basket accompanied by some children from the school and the reserve teams.

The initiatives of the 'Més que un triple' programme for the 2019/20 season are as follows:

  • ‘Tu Cole en L’Alqueria’. The second season consolidates this programme of visits that the Valencia Basket Club in L'Alqueria del Basket has developed with Bankia’s sponsorship and that is aimed at all the schools of Comunidad Valenciana. The objective is that the children of the region can, besides getting to know L’Alqueria, receive talks about the values of sport and the Culture of Effort. The programme will be run throughout the school year.
  • Bankia, in the facilities of L'Alqueria del Basket. Bankia will also sponsor the sports kits of the close to 600 children of L'Alqueria del Basket. The logo of the bank will appear on the upper back of all the game shirts, above the number.
  • 'Valencia Basket Card'. In this new season, the 'Bankia Valencia Basket Card' will provide more benefits for account holders, who will be rewarded by identifying themselves as members of the club with possible direct discounts on official Valencia Basket products or with other special deals that will be announced in the future. The essence remains the same as in 2014 (a fee-free card), as does the charitable cause associated with this card: a percentage of the amount derived from each purchase will be donated to the Fundación Valencia Basket 2000.
  • 'Triple Solidario Bankia'. For every three-pointer scored by the professional teams of Valencia Basket during their season, Bankia will donate 50 euros to the Fundación Valencia Basket 2000 to invest in the training of coaches for schools and the club youth team. Every successful free throw by the top-tier men's and women's teams will increase Bankia's contribution to a maximum of 40,000 euros.

The special editions of the 'Triple Solidario Bankia' will take place in both the men's and women's matches and each three-pointer scored from the midfield in the breaks of the matches will double its contribution up to 100 euros.

In the first five years of this initiative’s existence, more than 3,200 3-pointers have been recorded, which were converted into more than 140,000 euros that are invested entirely in initiatives aimed at the training, education and specialisation of the coaches of L'Alqueria del Basket and the rest of the Community.
