The Instituto Valenciano de Cultura (Valencia Institute of Culture) in collaboration with the Federación de Sociedades Musicales de la Comunidad Valenciana (Federation of Music Societies of the Valencia Region), sponsored by Bankia, have organised the ‘1st Bankia Orchestras of the Valencia Region Festival’, which will take place in Sagunto and Altea from 22 to 30 September.

This festival is part of the ‘Bankia Escolta València’, organised by the bank in the Valencia Region to support the music association movement in all three provinces.

This first festival will strengthen an essential aspect of ‘Bankia Escolta València’, which is to support string musicians and orchestras in Valencia. The ‘1st Bankia Orchestras of the Valencia Region Festival’ is a new annual event that will join the ‘1st Cycle of Bankia Orchestral Concerts’, which will run until December, and the 'Bankia Orchestras Competition’ which will take place for the third time this year.

The city mayor, Quico Fernández, the deputy director of Music and Popular Culture of the IVC, Marga Landete; the vice president of the FSMCV, Remigi Morant and the Communication and external relations manager for the Valencia region at Bankia, Isabel Rubio, took part in the presentation of the festival at Sagunto town hall.

Josep Francesc Fernández said that "one of the greatest incentives for Segunto as a Valencian cultural city is to enhance the city’s offer with top-level events. In this regard, the ‘1st Bankia Orchestras of the Valencia Region Festival’ is the type of incentive that enriches us as a city and connects us with artistic talent in other parts of the Valencia Region”.

“We are delighted to welcome orchestras from Alaquàs, Cullera and San Juan to our symbolic Roman Theatre, a monument that we must claim as a venue for initiatives like this one, where music has always received a magnificent, warm welcome. An experience that we hope will be unforgettable both for us and for the musicians that visit us”, said the mayor of Sagunto.

The deputy director of Music and Popular Culture of the IVC said that “this is one of our activities for fostering orchestral music within the music association movement”.

“It is a way of keeping the orchestras that have taken part in the ‘Bankia Orchestras Competition’ alive, as well as the Orchestra Season, and also a way of enabling them to live together, to start the academic year focusing closely on their participation in the festival and, above all, letting the people of Valencia see the marvellous quality of the young orchestras that depend on music societies”, said Landete.

Bankia Escolta València

The coordinator of communication and external relations manager for the Valencia region at Bankia said that “the bank’s annual financial support for ‘Bankia Escolta València’ is growing”. “With this first ‘‘1st Bankia Orchestras of the Valencia Community Festival’, the first Orchestra season that will run until the end of the year, and the ‘3rd Orchestra Competition’, which will be convened before the summer, we will have established, together with the administration and the music societies, a serious and very well-thought out project, the purpose of which is to raise standards of excellence and employability of our string musicians”, she said.

The vice-president of the FSMCV, Remigi Morant, acknowledged all the participating orchestras and music societies taking part for their hard work. “Little by little, the orchestral movement emerging from music societies is improving and we must remember that these will be the musicians of the future in symphonic orchestras around the world”, he said.

The Roman Theatre in Sagunto will host a performance by the ‘Joven Orquesta de Sociedad Musical de Alaquàs’ and the ‘Orquesta Sinfónica de la SM. Santa Cecília de Cullera’, on 22 September and on 23 September there will be a concert by the ‘Orquesta Sinfónica Villa de San Juan de la S.M. La Paz de San Juan’.

The concerts at the Palacio Altea will be on 29 September and the Symphonic Orchestra ‘La Artesana de Catarroja’ and the ‘Orquesta Sinfónica de la Sociedad La Artística de Buñol' will perform, and on 30 September, the concert will be courtesy of the ‘Orquesta Sinfónica de la Sociedad Musical La Primitiva de Rafelbunyol’.
