  • Bankia’s Chairman, a student of the University of Deusto Business School, was, until now, the second Vice Chair of this body, of which the former Portuguese Prime Minister, Pedro Passos Coelho, is also on the Board

Bankia’s Chairman, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, has been appointed Board Chairman of Deusto Business School, a position he takes over from the former Vice-Chair and former Managing Director of Banco Santander, Alfredo Sáenz, who will now occupy the honorary presidency and will continue as a Board member of the business school.

Goirigolzarri highlighted "the honour of chairing the Board of the Deusto Business School, because of my personal connection with the school, of which I was a student, and because of the values it upholds. Professional excellence, ethical commitment, cooperation and innovation are values that I share and that I trust I can help spread from this new position."

In addition to the appointment of José Ignacio Goirigolzarri as the new Chairman, Pedro Passos, the former Portuguese Prime Minister, is joining the Deusto Business School Board. In addition to his political career, Pedro Passos is an economist and university professor.

Passos Coelho will share the Board with, in addition to José Ignacio Goirigolzarri and Alfredo Sáenz, the current CEO and next Chairman of BBVA, Carlos Torres; the Chairwoman of Banco Santander, Ana Botín; former Vice President of the European Commission, Joaquín Almunia; the Chairman of KPMG Spain, Hilario Albarracín; and that of PwC España, Gonzalo Sánchez; with the former European Commissioner, Benita Ferrero Waldner, and with the President of Siemens, Rosa García, among other personalities from the Spanish and international socio-economic and political world who are also on the Board.
