  • Payments for purchases made through the Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay and Bankia Wallet platforms exceeded 2.44 million transactions in the seventh month of the year
  • 540,000 customers are enrolled on digital platforms through Bankia, which represents an 88% increase so far this year
  • Digitization and the impulse of means of payment is one of the levers for growth included in the Bank's 2018-2020 Strategic Plan

Payments for purchases made by Bankia customers with their mobile (through the Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay and Bankia Wallet platforms) exceeded 2.44 million transactions in July alone. As a result, the monthly volume of mobile purchase transactions has increased by 123%, as the figure stood at 1.09 million in December 2018.

Purchases with mobiles account for 4.8% of total card purchases and 540,000 customers are already enrolled on one of the digital platforms with which Bankia has an agreement. This represents an increase of 88% compared to last December, when there were 286,600 customers registered on these platforms.

This most recent data includes Bankia customers who have integrated their PayPal accounts into the bank's channels. Bankia was the first entity in Spain to sign an agreement of this nature with the US company.

At the end of 2018, Bankia also became the first bank in Spain to offer its customers the possibility of using their cards on the main digital payment platforms available on the market.

Similarly, Bankia has about 520.000 Bizum customers who use its app to send and receive money, 82% more than in December last year.

Bank customers, depending on their preferences, can make their digital payments through Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or Bizum, as well as using the bank’s own tool - Bankia Wallet.

The aim is to ensure that users have access to the full range of digital solutions that make their payments easier, more convenient and secure, without having to use cash. Bankia has made a firm commitment to technology, with a strategy that puts the customer at the centre and offers the best digital products and services.

Digital customers

Bankia's 2018-2020 Strategic Plan includes the means of payment sector as one of the levers for growth for the coming years. As a result, the entity has entered into strategic partnerships with the main companies on the market.

The digitization of Bankia's customers is progressing well, and almost 50% of the bank's customers are already digital. By the end of the Strategic Plan, more than 65% of the bank's customers will have a digital profile.
