  • Thirty-six students of the IES Galileo Galilei high school in Córdoba are receiving training to develop pruning in height tasks
  • 25,000 people work in this sector in Spain

Thirty-six students of the IES Galileo Galilei high school in Córdoba have taken part in the pruning in height project promoted by the Dualiza Aid Scheme. This action took place between September and today, day of the closing ceremony.

During this project, the students have received a training course to be operators of hoisting platforms and all the training required to handle the pruning machines and apply all the safety measures and standards required for the work.

The students of the second year of the Vocational Middle Degree in Gardening and Floristry and the Upper Degree in Landscaping and Rural Environment have made a demonstration of the knowledge they have acquired.

The event was attended by the regional coordinator of Dualiza Bankia for Andalusia, Eva Aguado, who highlighted "the complete commitment that Bankia has with education, shown in projects like this one, with which it contributes to improve the training of students, as well as their employability".

Aguado also mentioned that "Andalusia is the community with the largest amount of projects selected in the first edition of the Dualiza Aid Scheme, and has encouraged all schools to prepare new ideas before the launch of the second edition of the Aid Scheme, which will take place soon".

The project "Gardening and landscaping as dual degree at IES Galileo Galilei" was one of the two projects selected in the province of Córdoba for the Dualiza Aid Scheme, which has served to promote 36 projects at 40 educational centres in 13 autonomous communities.

According to the school itself "the sector of landscaping and gardening in Spain has close to 5,000 companies, which employ about 25,000 people. The market is divided between public bodies and private companies; of the latter most of them are small and medium-sized businesses". Moreover, "the gardening industry has grown greatly in the last decade thanks the increase of single-family houses with a garden, as well as by a greater presence of green areas in the urban zones".
